Al Rhodes, Camp Director, Five-Star Skills Camp
Coach Rhodes started working at Five Star Basketball Camp in 1983, when he was the Head Boys’ Basketball Coach at Warsaw High School. He led the Tiger program for 22 years, and his overall record at Warsaw was 405 wins, 133 loss (75.3%). His teams have won 14 Sectionals, 7 Regionals, 4 Semi-States, and the 1984 State Championship. Al freely credits the Five-Star Camp experience as one of the reasons he was the winningest coach in Indiana between 1989 and 2002.
Al has also developed many great players over his coaching career. His teams have included 5 players selected for the prestigious Indiana All Stars. This list includes 2 players named as Mr. Basketball, Jeff Grose (1985 Mr. Basketball) and Kevin Ault (1996 Mr. Basketball), and Rick Fox (Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers). Hundreds of other players in Coach Rhodes’ basketball programs have enjoyed the benefits of being part of the Five Star family. Al is extremely proud about bringing the advantages of of the Five-Star experience to young players in Indiana.
Coach Rhodes is widely recognized by his peers as the finest teacher of basketball fundamental skills in the country. His coaching peers have selected him to coach the Indiana All Stars (1995), to serve as President of the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association (1996), and District Coach of the Year on three occasions (1984, 1986, 1992). Coach Rhodes also coached the 2005 McDonald’s All-American Team. He was enshrined in the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame in 2011.
Coach Rhodes is frequently recruited to teach basketball overseas, which he enjoys immensely. He has worked with basketball Australia, Turkey, and the Bahamas to improve the level of basketball in those countries. He is a great speaker and entertains thousands every year in that capacity.
Al Rhodes is currently the Head Boys’ Basketball Coach at Penn High School. He is committed to making the Junior Five-Star Indiana the best basketball skills camp in the state!
